This T-72 Soviet designed main battle tank first entered production in 1972 with some 50,000 being built. The T-72 was produced at the Malyshev
HMB Plant and at UKBM Nizhny taqil. Algeria, Bulgaria, Cuba, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, Hungary, India,
Iran, Libya, Poland, Romania, Syria and Yugoslavia were the countries that received these tanks thru export from the Soviet Union.
In November 2005 Hungary donated 77 T-72 tanks to the government of Iraq. The T-72 was a very advanced, but overly complicated design
which featured an auto-loader which often malfunctioned. This particular T-72 is the more advanced "A" model featuring a laser range finder. The T-72
on display was captured from the Iraqi Army by U.S. Forces during Operation Desert Storm.
